Tim Garcia

DEI Practitioner | Educator | Consultant

I’m Tim Garcia and for the past decade I have had the honor and privilege of working with the most incredible students, families, and educators. Thoughtful curriculum development, classroom management, anti-racist practices, and student-centered instruction truly are the foundation for transformative education. At my core, I believe that meeting needs and creating the right environment can create access for any and all students.

My empathetic and creative approach to systems and structures has allowed me to maximize growth across various schools and workplaces. With one organization I created and implemented a curriculum that aims to unpack, combat, and dismantle white supremacy culture in the workplace. Then, I facilitated a series of professional development sessions with the goal of increasing staff members’ awareness of the role that white supremacy culture plays in individual identity, staff member interactions, teacher-student interactions, and organizational culture. And to deepen the impact of the work, I managed affinity groups to debrief, process, and reflect on the prior professional development sessions. This approach can be adapted and revised to meet the needs of your institution.

As an 8th grade History teacher, 7th grade Writing teacher, and 6th grade ELA teacher, I built out discourse tools that were age appropriate and centering student voice. As a grade team leader, I was able to model the impact of end of unit surveys and finding opportunities to garner student insight to learning profiles and preferences. I currently manage affinity space programming for third to fifth graders as they explore their identities, topics related to identity, as well as building community, and advocacy skills.

I am here to support your institution’s growth, execution of mission, culture of DEI, and know that intentional incremental changes can yield large sweeping results. If your school, organization or institution is struggling with retention, lack of vulnerability, solution-oriented approaches, or stagnant growth, I can address those needs through auditing, professional development or affinity space programming.

Children’s Book Author

As I began working with elementary age students, I immediately sought out resources that were age appropriate for students to engage in complex topics to help them in positive identity development. I crafted a simple story that captured topics of community engagement, systems, structures, allyship and more. After sharing with students it was a hit! This story is now my first children’s book “Bailey Bear Goes to Work.” It’s a great tool for teachers, schools, SEL curriculum, DEI curriculum, and for the bedtime story rotation!
